Launching ceremony of the new construction site for the Rome Metro B1 extension from Conca d’Oro to Jonio

The launching ceremony of the new construction site for the Rome Metro B1 extension from Conca d’Oro to Jonio took place this morning in the presence of the mayor of Rome, Gianni Alemanno, Sergio Marchi, Alderman, as well as the President and Managing Director of “Roma Metropolitane” respectively Gianni Ascarelli and Federico Bortoli, the Managing Director of Salini Costruttori, Pietro Salini.
This new section, operative as of 2012, will extend the B1 line which, as of the end of 2011 will connect Piazza Bologna to Conca d’Oro.
The works will be carried out through an integrated design build contract by the same “ATI” Temporary Consortium of companies i.e. Salini Costruttori (Leader) – Tecnimont – Icop currently carrying out the Bologna – Conca d’Oro section.
The Jonio station will be an integrated station and will have a 3 storey car parks above the underground station.
The trains in the Conca d’Oro – Jonio section will run 25m below ground, single tunnel double track, starting from the Conca d’Oro station currently under completion.
The estimated value of investment financed entirely by the Municipality of Rome is € 220 million.
The estimated value of investment for the Bologna - Conca d’Oro section (3 stations, almost 4km) is € 513 million of which € 239 million financed by the State and € 274 million by the Municipality of Rome.
