The President of the World Bank visits Sierra Leone and praises Bumbuna

11 Feb 2010

A source of clean and renewable energy essential for the sustainable development of Sierra Leone and the future wellbeing of the nation. This was how the president of the World Bank, Robert B. Zoellick, described Bumbuna, the power plant built by Salini Costruttori whilst visiting Sierra Leone, the first stop on his tour of Africa.

The project was financed mainly by the Italian Department of Cooperation, but also by the Government of Sierra Leone, the African Development Bank and the Department of International Development UK. Opec financed the transmission line and the World Bank financed the Environmental Impact Assessment.

The plant includes an 88m high dam and a 50MW power plant for an annual energy production nof 315GWh.
