With the arrival at the station of the second mechanical tunnelling machine on the odd gallery, the Conca d’Oro-Gondar section of the tunnel was completed within the time stipulated in the contract. The first TBM of the even gallery reached the station in December and is now excavating towards the Annibaliano station.
The Bologna–Conca d’Oro section will be operational beginning in late 2011, while the Conca d’Oro–Jonio line will begin operating in December 2012. The Bologna-Jonio section totals 5 km in length. Travel time will be 13 minutes: the line will carry 48,000 passengers an hour through its four stations: Annibaliano, Libia-Gondar, Conca D’Oro and Jonio.
