Salini Costruttori expressed its concern for the victims of the landslide that struck the area of Bududa, Uganda, a few days ago, leaving 80 dead and more than 400 missing. According to experts, the situation, which involved the devastation of villages located in the eastern part of the country, could worsen because of the bad weather that continues to pound the area. Salini Costruttori, which has been working in the African country for some time, wanted to demonstrate its closeness to the local populations struck by the tragedy. During a ceremony attended by the Jinja District Commissioner, Christopher Bagonza, Tommaso Bianconi, the Italian group’s Managing Director on site, declared that the Company considers it essential to stand with the local populations. He therefore announced the donation of relief goods worth 20 million local shillings. Goods donated to help the people included foam mattresses, blankets and large tents to house the displaced. Jinja’s Commissioner expressed appreciation for the efforts of Salini Costruttori; he said that the Company was showing concern not just for business but also for the communities in the area. The 20 million shillings collected to date come from the Company’s Management, but the Company’s workers are also collecting money to help the victims.
